Takenami, Yamaoke) made poster presentations. Prof. Funahashi was an organizer of a symposium on chiral chemistry.

Prof. Funahashi attended a symposium on 'Polymers utilized for batteries in future' of the society of polymer science, Japan,
which was held in the Sophia University in Tokyo.

Students of Takamatsu elementary school (attached to our university) came to our campus. We have a class for an
experiment of photo-reactive polymers.

Prof. Dr. Yo Shimizu (Ubiquitous Energy Institute of AIST, Director of Japanese Liquid Crystal Society) came to our campus
and made lectures on liquid crystalline materials. He was invited as a lecturer for the special seminar of the graduate school.

5 August 2014
 A beer party was held in the Beer Garden of Hotel Crement in Tkamatsu. Not only the members of Funahashi group, but also
many people from various groups attended to the party.  

24 July 2014
A seminar for high school students was held in our Faculty. Our group had a class of 'Control of Light using Liquid Crystals'.
We made twisted nematic (TN) cells using 5CB. The high school students experieced rubbing, fabrication of the TN cells, optical function of
polarizers, birefrengence of polymer and liquid crystals, and electro-optical effect of the liquid crystals.

11 July 2014 In our campus, the 5th Symposium on optoelectronic materials (Setouchi Festa on Hybrid Materials consisting of metal and organic
components) was held, cooperated by the Chugoku-Shikoku branch of the Chemical Society of Japan and Japanese Liquid Crystal Society.
We deeply thank Prof. Sugimoto (Kumamoto Univ.), Prof. Kaneko (Ritsumeikan Univ.), Mr. Kozai (Anan Tec. Col.), Prof. Yoshinari (Osaka
Univ.), and Prof. Chang (Chuo Univ.)

Prof. Funahashi attended the 15 th International Liquid Crystal Conference (ILCC) 2014 held in Dublin and made oral
and poster presentations.

Prof. Funahashi's Highlight review on nanostructured LC semiconductors is accepted for the publication in Journal of Materials Chemistry C (Royal Society of Chemistry). The limitation of the length is exceeded, but the paper includes significant information.

19 June 2014:
Prof. Funahashi's review article on LC semiconductors was accepted for the publication in Journal of organic synthetic chemistry, Japan.

14 June 2014:
The 18th Symposium on Liquid Crystal Chemistry was held in the Faculty of Engineering, Kagawa University. Many LC chemists
joined in the symposium. We had a good time for active discussion.

May 2014: A paper on redox active liquid crystals is published in Chemistry - A European Journal. This is a result of a collaboration research
with Dr. K. Isoda and Prof. M. Tadokoro. This research was supported by a Grant-in-Aid for Scientific Research on Innovative Areas

A full paper on electron transport in columnar phases of perylene tetracarboxylic bisimide derivatives has been accepted in
Physical Chemistry Chemical Physics published by Royal Society of Chemistry.


27 February 2014:
Prof. Funahashi made an invited lecture in the 2nd International Symposium on Self-Organizing Molecular Semiconductors
held in Tokyo (Chairman: Prof. Hanna, Tokyo Institute of Technology). I would like to thank Prof. Hanna for his giving me an oppotunity to show
our results.


26-28 February 2014:
Takeuchi and Funatsu made presentation for final interviews of master course of our graduate school. Seike III,
Takenami, Mitani, Yamaoka also made presentations in the bachelor course.

10 February 2014:
Prof. Funahashi made lectures on "Liquid crystals in our daily life" in Shido high school in our prefecture.

Seike II and Hamamoto have returned back to Takamatsu from the international internship program in Europe.

5 December:
Prof. Funahashi made an oral presentation in International Display Workshops 2013 (IDW 13') held in Sapporo. He is a member of
program committee of Session of Liquid Crystal Technology. And he visited the Laboratory of Prof. Nobuyuki Tamaoki (Research Institute for
Electronic Science, Hokkaido University).


15 November:

11-12 November: 
A group meeting of "Coordination programing" (Grant-in-Aid for Scientific Research on Innovative Areas (2009-2013),
ministry of education, science, culture, and sports) was held in our campus. After the meeting, we moved to Shionoe and enjoyed the hot spring.
The discussions in the meeting were very exciting and we comfirmed our friendships.

31 October:
I attended a symposiumu "Liquid Crystals - Creation is to know the old" held by Japan Liquid Crystal Society in Tokyo as an
organizer. We are inspired by the impressive lectures in the sympozium.

We participated into CSJ Chemistry festa held in Tokyo. Funtsu, Takeuchi, Seike III, Takenami, and Yamaoka made poster
presentations. Prof. Funahashi was an organizer of a symposium on Nanofunctional materials. We would like to thank many people for their
encouraging us.

   
With Prof. T. Kato (director of the festa)  I got a soft toy in the banquet! The soft toy joins the troop of toys in our Lab.

7 October:
 Result of diploma thesis of M. Yamaoka (+ purification of the samples by K. Takenami) is accepted for Journal of Materials
Chemistry C (Royal Society of Chemistry). This paper is on new liquid crystalline semiconductors bearing cyclictetrasiloxane moieties.

29 September: We had a meeting for bachelor course students of our department for diploma resdearch. Seike III, Takenami, Yamaoka, Mitani
made presentations on their researches.

20 September:
K. Seike II and T. Hamamoto (M1) will stay in Universität Bonn-Rhein-Sieg and Université de Savoie by international internship
program of our university.

8-10 September:
Prof. Funahashi, Takeuchi, Seike, Hamamoto participated in Meeting of Japan Liquid Crystal Society which was held in Osaka
University and made 5 oral and 1 poster presentations.

2-6 September:
Prof. Funahashi and Funatsu participated in International ferroelectric liquid crystal conference 2013 (FLCC) which was held in
Magdeburg in Bundesrepublik Deutschland.

We had a meeting for master course students of our department. Funatsu and Takeuchi made presentations on their researches.

29 July:
Mr. Kohei Hasegawa will stay in our group for two weeks as an internship student from Niihama college of technology.

25-27 July:
Summer school of Japan liquid crystal society was held in Ageo in Saitama prefecture. Prof. Funahashi made an invited lecture on
electrical conductivity of liquid crystals. Takeuchi, Seike and Hamamoto participated to the school.

25 July:
We collaborated with Tutorial course of the university for high school students and had a lecture and an experiment on liquid crystals.
20 students paticipated to the course from our prefecture.

12 July:
We had a seminar on photonics and electronics materials in Hayashi-cho campus gathering young scientists working in the Setuchi area
. The name of the seminar was "Setouchi Festival for Soft Matters", and held by Japan Liquid Crystal Society and Research group of Photonics
and Electronics Materials of Kagawa University. The seminar was really stimulative for us. We heartly thank Dr. Monobe (AIST), Prof. Ozaki
(Ehime Univ.), Prof. Ishii (Kagawa Univ.), Prof. Tsurumachi (Kagawa Univ.), Dr. Kondo (Hyogo Pref. Univ.), Prof. Miyamoto (FIT).

        

4 July:
A paper on a liquid-crystalline perylene tetracarboxylic bisimide derivative which can complex with lithium cations is accepted in Dalton
Transactions published by Royal Society of Chemistry. This paper will appear in a special issue on Coordination Programming. (The page number
is determined on 30 October.)


13 June:
Prof. Funahashi made an invited lecture in Symposium of tha association of liquid crystals chemistry held in Tsukuba. Funatsu, Seke,
Hamamoto made poster presentations.

11 June:
Prof. Funahashi made an invited lecture in Zasshikai seminar of department of chemistry, Faculty of Science, the university of Tokyo.

4 June:
A paper on band-like conduction in a smectic phase of a phenylterthiophene derivative is accepted in ChemPhysChem. Band-like carrier
transports have been observed in single crystals. In this study, we have verified a band-like conduction is possible in liquid crystal phases.

13 May: A paper on ferroelectric liquid crystalline semiconductor is accepted in Trans. Mater. Res. Soc. Jpn. This is the first paper based on the
research results of students in Funahashi Lab. (Page number is determined on 28 October)

8 May: A review artickle on carrier transport in nanostructured liquid crystals by Prof. Funahashi is published in Function and Materials (CMC
publisher, in Japanese).

3 April: We have a party to enjoy cherry blossoms at Tai-central park.

The graduation ceremony was held in Siwaicho campus. Mr. Tamura and Miss Yamaoka obtained prized from the dean of our faculty
and the director of faculty association.

18-19 March:
The 7th International Conference on Molecular Electronics and Bioelectronics (M and BE 7) was held in Fukuoka. Prof. Funahashi
and Mr. Funatsu made presentations.

12 March:
A party for graduating students of our department was held in the international hotel Takamatsu. Mr. Hamamoto obtained a student
prize from the iron and steel institute of Japan.

4 March:
A party for the finishment of the graduation theses was held. The students who will graduate at the end of March presented me goods of
miffy.

28 February:
An article on organic electronics written by Prof. Funahashi is published in Nikkan Kogyo Shinbun (Daily Industrial News,Japanese).
Nikkan Kogyo Shinbun is the biggest news paper for industrial information in Japan.

27-28 February:
Our department had a meeting for presentations of graduation theses. Seke, Tamura, Hamamoto, Yamaoka,
and Ogita made presentations.

30 January:
A review article on Time-of-Flight technique by Prof. Funahashi is published in Ekisho (The Japanese Liquid Crystal Society).

21 January: Prof. M. Funahashi gave some comments on the accident of the lithium ion batteries of the B787 aircraft on TV news of Setouchi BC. Some demonstrations on chemical proiperties of metallic lithium were also broadcasted in the TV news program.

10 January:
Miss Takeuchi returned back to Japan.

8 January: An article is published in Clean Technology (in Japanese).   

7 January: Mr. Funatsu made a poster presentation in the 2nd Joint Symposium of Kagawa and Hanbat Universities.
