Message from the Dean

Professor Takuro MASUDA Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, Dean of the Graduate School of Engineering, Kagawa University

Our Faculty of Engineering was established in 1997. At the time of foundation, we started as a National University setting up our very advanced missions to nurture engineers with new methods and structures for education and research. Since then we developed educational systems for the Master's and Doctoral Programs in the Graduate School of Engineering. The first students completed the Doctoral Program in March 2007 earning Ph. D degrees in Engineering.

Engineering has developed constantly to support people's lives everywhere since human beings came to the scene of history. Human beings desire endlessly and this strong and constant desire thrusts us to form the modern society of science and technology. The word‘engineer' derives from‘ingenium,’which means genius and imagination. We could say engineers are the people with unique imagination and skills trying to do things that ordinary people cannot do. It is our mission as the Faculty of Engineering to improve their skills in order to challenge current issues. Present Society is full of technological pressure to solve issues such as global warming, population expansion, environmental pollution, decreasing energy resources and resistant bacteria. We must tackle these issues one way or another.

Technological development is essential for humans to live comfotable lives. It is surely significant for the survival of the human society to conduct research on environmental problems, prevention of disasters, information and electronic technologies, robotics, development of new materials, nano-technology and other such issues. In order to survive in the 21st century, it is necessary to acquire technologies in these fields, which means to acquire abilities that ordinary people cannot do. We are ready to provide the latest educational systems to nurture such kinds of skills.

The Earth’s future is in the hands of the youth. It is our role as a University to support the youth to work vigorously for sustainable developments of environments and human beings. It is our hope to support international students to learn and mingle together and then to acquire broad knowledge so as to play significant roles in the world.

We hope more and more international students will choose to come to Kagawa University to earn their degrees!
